Intertoto - Lyngby win | QPR fixture change | Sheringham Palace bound? | Deano may not go!? | Teamtalk latest

INTERTOTO- LYNGBY WIN FIRST LEG
*******************************

I am very grateful to PAUL ROMAIN who took the time and trouble to
bring us up-to-date on the Inter-Toto Cup situation.

This is what Paul says.....

"After much searching on the Web I finally discovered the
Intertoto First Round First Leg result last night on an obscure
  Lyngby home page (in Danish!).

  "Apparently it was:

    Hrvatski Dragovoljac 1 Lyngby 4.

"Second Leg in Denmark next Saturday. The winners play Samsunspor
of Turkey. We play the winners of that.

"However, just to muddy the water the Daily Telegraph this morning
gave the result as a 4-4 draw. I think this is wrong though. The
Lyngby Web site had scorers details as well - so it sounds like
they know more about it. Perhaps we have some Danish subscribers
that could clarify matter for those of us who are actually
interested in Palace's involvement and likely opponents ?"

Paul Romain.

**RB** Can any Danish subscriber confirm that scoreline for us ? **

ANOTHER FIXTURE CHANGE
**********************

Alan Russell tells us .....

"According to teamtalk - Palace's home game against QPR has been
switched to a Friday night, and will now take place on 18th
  December."

Alan Russell.

I find this transfer speculation difficult to believe, but....

TEDDY THE TOAST AT THE COURT OF KING TEL
****************************************

NEW Crystal Palace boss Terry Venables is set to stage a summer swoop
for one of his favourite footballing sons, Teddy Sheringham, who will
fulfill his wish of returning to London by swapping Old Trafford for
Selhurst Park in a 2 million deal, on his return from the World Cup.

The England striker, a former Millwall and Tottenham player, has made
it known to friends that he would like to come back to the capital,
and the word is that he has agreed to join up with Venables at
relegated Palace.

Following a promising start to his Manchester United career, Sheri has
become unsettled at Old Trafford after finishing his first season at
the club, surpisingly, empty-handed. He was also upset by the public
criticism about his pre-World Cup partying in Portugal by United
director Bobby Charlton.

He has yet to face manager Alex Ferguson over his antics on the
Algarve, but strict disciplinarian Fergie is far from happy and when
former England coach Venables moved in with his first bid since
returning to club football, the United chief gave an immediate "yes".

Sheringham has been constantly linked with a move back to London,
with West Ham thought to be leading the chase. But Hammers' chief
Harry Redknapp has ruled himself out of this particular transfer
tussle, even though he is looking to add a striker to his
ever-expanding squad.

DEANO NOT CHARLTON-BOUND
************************

"Charlton have bought ex-Eagle Chris Powell from Derby County for
£850,000. With Powell being a left back this should ensure Dean
Gordon stays at Palace for a little longer yet."

Neil burling.

From TEAMtalk.......

WING-BACK TARGETS PALACE
************************

Palace look to be on the verge of picking up an international
wing-back after the player claimed he wanted to move to Selhurst
Park. Australian left wing-back Danny Tiatto today said:

"I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Palace come in for me. It
  would be a great move."

Terry Venables knows Tiatto well after his spell in charge of the
national side and is looking for a new left-back. The 24-year-old
may not be at the top of Venables' shopping list but he has been
strongly linked with a move over the summer. Brian Little is still
trying to re-sign the Aussie after Stoke failed to complete his
proposed move from Swiss club FC Baden last season. Tiatto continued:

"If I'm offered First Division soccer in England I won't be going
  back to the Britannia Stadium."

**RB** Can any Oz-based subscribers give us a profile of Tiatto ? **

COTTEE TO JOIN
***************

The Eagles are considering making a move for Leicester City's
veteran striker Tony Cottee. It is believed that Cottee, who has just
a year left on his contract, is keen on a return to the capital.

New Palace coach Terry Venables is looking to bring some fire power
to the club as he looks to build a promotion challenge. Cottee, 33
next month, scored his 200th league goal last season and could well
fit the bill. The Foxes could be willing to let the former West Ham
and Everton star leave for a nominal fee as he would be available on
a free next season. Palace have already lost Thomas Brolin and
Michele Padovano is also set to leave. This means Venables is short
of players up front and Cottee would also prove the perfect tutor for
young star Matt Jansen.

JANSEN LATEST
*************

Matt Jensen returns from America next week and it is hoped the
Eagles can secure his future with the club. The youngster is
attracting the interest of Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa
and Southampton, who have both had bids rejected.

Palace chairman Mark Goldberg says he wants to keep the England
under-21 international at Selhurst Park but has to wait until he
returns from coaching at a Soccer School in the States.

Jansen's father has confirmed that he thinks his son will be staying
at the club next season. He has no word from Palace about offers for
his son so sees no sign of him moving on. Matt Jensen snr said:

"The only thing which would change Matthew's situation was if
Palace accepted an offer for him. Then it would be a question of
whether we went ahead with it or not. But so far it is only media
  talk."

CRAWLEY LOOK FOR LOAN
*********************

Non-league Crawley Town are hoping that the Eagles will lend them
some players next season. Palace will play all their home reserve
team games at the club's Bloomfield stadium during the new campaign
and because they are operating on a tight budget boss Billy Smith
only has a squad of 17.

The squad could become stretched at times with injuries and
suspensions so chairman John Maggs is hoping to use the special
relationship which is developing between the two clubs to his
advantage. Maggs said:

"Having the Crystal Palace players around the stadium is something
that Crawley Town can take advantage of. It is feasible that we
would look at our connections with the club to give a couple of
their players a game for us. I've not spoken to Palace about it yet
but it is something that we will be looking into."

Alan Johnston.

And finally.....

Matthias Brandt in denmark confirms that Intertoto scoreline :

I am not a Danish subscriber, but Kicker Sportmagazin, the German
footballmagazin says (as reported on the Danish webside) :

    Hrvatski Dragovoljac 1 Lyngby 4.

Matthias also tells us....

And if it is still interesting, Charles Akkonor who was linked with
Palace some time ago plays next season at VfL Wolfsburg in the
1.Bundesliga.
