| Peter
Morley became Chairman of Crystal Palace on the
13th August 1999, following the resignation of Mark
Goldberg. Peter has been a Palace fan
for many years, and has been involved with the
Club in some capacity since the early 1970's.
Peter was one of the founder members of the Vice
Presidents Club, and was the Chairman of that
Club for four years. He became a Director of the
Board in 1995 whilst Ron Noades was Chairman, and
remained a full member of the Board following the
acquisition of the Club by Mark Goldberg last
year.
His most recent
role has been as Company Secretary. Appointed in
February 1999, he has served the Club well in
this capacity, during one of the most difficult
periods in the Club's history - a period which
has seen the Club enter into Administration.
Peter has now
retired from full time employment. Before his
retirement he was the Personnel Director of
Tesco. He says that he is 'Now content to look at
assignments and assorted exam papers as an
external examiner for Stirling University'. A
Justice of the Peace since 1986, Peter is now on
the supplemental list. In 1994, he was awarded
the CBE, for services to 'training and
retailing'. He is still active in the
organisation of training.
Peter says that he
has very little time for outside interests.
Looking after our Club has been very much a full
time responsibility.
Unlike several of
Peter's predecessors, Peter is very much an
active Palace fan. He boasts of having visited 83
of the 92 League Grounds in his support of
Palace.
Members of the
Internet Community - specifically subscribers to
CP-FRIS - will know Peter as 'Deep Voice'. When
it became apparent towards the end of the
1998/1999 Season that things were not going too
well at the Club, Peter was the link between the
Club and the fans. His honesty, combined with his
candid and open approach, were universally
appreciated, and did much to heal the rift which
had begun to develop between the Officers of the
Club and the fan base.
It is early days
yet, but the initial signs are that Peter's
appointment has been a popular one with the fans.
